In the Sustainability (Material Substitution) category, our ESD Paper Bag impressed the jury of the German Packaging Institute (Deutsches Verpackungsinstitut e. V.).

"The first certified antistatic bag made of paper, featuring a volume resistance that is significantly lower than that of many plastic bags. Unlike the conductive ESD plastic packaging commonly found on the market, the ESD paper bag is made from 100% recycled paper and is recyclable. Furthermore, the paper bag does not require the usual ‘ESD expiration date,’ as its dissipative properties are permanent,” according to the jury.

Why are ESD bags needed?

Electrostatic discharge can occur quickly with electronics and technical components. While it is invisible to many components, it can cause significant damage. Sensitive components such as circuit boards, plug-in cards, microchips, data storage media, or graphics cards therefore require appropriate packaging in areas without ESD protection.

What makes the ESD Paper Bag special?

The ESD Paper Bag is a paper-based solution for conductive packaging. Made from special ESD paper, it offers antistatic properties and can be used as an alternative to plastic ESD bags. Unlike many commercially available plastic-based ESD packaging solutions, this bag is made of paper. The material can be recycled after use.

Does the ESD paper bag comply with standards?

The ESD Paper Bag meets the requirements for ESD-compliant packaging in accordance with DIN EN 61340-5-3. The measured volume resistance is 5.6 × 10⁴ Ω (determined in accordance with DIN EN 61340-2-3). Thanks to its special bag design, the ESD Paper Bag achieves defined conductive properties. These help protect electronic components from damage caused by electrostatic discharge during storage and transport.

The ESD Paper Bag offers reliable performance for practical use. It can be used regardless of humidity and delivers impressive long-term stability. With a burst strength of 210 kPa (ISO 2758 / TAPPI T403) and a tape seam strength of 4.3 N (DIN EN ISO 1924‑2/100/20), the bag is designed for transport and handling. This makes it suitable for a variety of requirements throughout storage, shipping, and daily operations.

Is the ESD paper bag suitable as the sole, form-fitting packaging?

The ESD Paper Bag is not intended to be used as the sole, direct-contact packaging for electrostatic-sensitive devices (ESDS) outside an ESD-protected area (EPA). For such applications, a supplementary packaging solution is recommended to ensure the necessary protection during handling, storage, and transport.

In what sizes is the ESD Paper Bag available?

The ESD packaging, made from the renewable raw material paper, is available in the WEBER Verpackungen online store in 7 different sizes: from 9 x 12 cm to 42 x 50 cm. Of course, custom sizes and high-quality printing with up to 11 water-based inks are also available upon request. Is the ESD Paper Bag from WEBER eco-friendly?

The ESD Paper Bag is a functional paper-based packaging solution. It is manufactured using special ESD paper. After use, the bag can be recycled.
